Who
are our Volunteers?
Hospice Simcoe volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They
provide countless hours of service to:
Hospice
volunteers come from all walks of life and include homemakers, accountants,
health care professionals, students, teachers and retirees. The most
prized personality traits of a hospice volunteer are flexibility,
compassion, a sense of humour and the ability to listen.
Volunteers receive thirty hours of instruction, have their references
checked, are screened by Hospice Staff, and participate in a criminal
reference check before they are placed in contact with clients and
their families.
What
do Hospice Simcoe volunteers do?

Client Care
We provide non-medical support typically including:

Companionship,
listening, reading aloud

Simple comfort measures, back rubs, position changes, transfers

Assistance
with transportation, shopping, light housekeeping tasks
-
Bedside vigilance while caregivers rest
-
The opportunity for family/caregivers to feel comfortable in
taking time away from home

Office assistance
