Visiting Hospice Services

Hospice Simcoe’s Visiting Volunteer Program is a valuable part of the Palliative approach to care in the community. Our trained volunteers add to the support provided by your care circle and provide non-medical support in the comfort of your own home.

When a cure is no longer possible, our volunteers can provide support which may include:

  • Companionship, empathy & a listening ear
  • Legacy work (ex. letter writing)
  • Simple comfort measures (ex. Hand massage)

Screening and Training

All volunteers sharing their time with families in the community complete a rigorous screening, interview and application process including a police record check. Volunteers complete an initial 30 hr. palliative training course and continuous ongoing support is provided by Hospice Simcoe.

Next Steps

It all starts with a simple phone call. Teneal Campbell, our Community Care Coordinator will speak with you to discuss your needs and to better understand the client’s condition. They will follow-up with a home visit to discuss if this program is appropriate, and to determine the best possible volunteer match for in-house home visiting. To speak with Teneal, please call 705-722-5995 ext. 231.

Please understand that due to the high number of referrals for this program, all requests must be considered on a priority basis. Availability of volunteers must also be considered.

Hospice Simcoe’s Living Well support program is available to individuals diagnosed with a life limiting illness. This 6 week program gives participants an opportunity to connect with others in a group setting, while finding rest, relaxation and flexible support.

Please see our Calendar for program dates.
